Auctioneer Notes

Welcome to another edition of Sunflower Seeds.  I hope the summer has been going well for all of you this year.  It always seems like everyone gets very busy at this time of year.  It's no exception here as we are getting ready to make our annual trip to Ohio to attend the Longaberger events and pick up auction consignments.  We are leaving Kansas City for Ohio on Thursday, July 26th.  If you live in or around the following cities, we will be available to stop and pick up your large collections at no cost (St. Louis, Effingham, Terre Haute, Indianapolis, Dayton, Columbus, Zanesville, Dresden, Akron, Canton).  We need to budget our trailer space, so if you are thinking about selling, please contact me immediately at (800) 440-9848 to schedule a pickup.  Last year, we filled a 26-foot U-Haul truck and a 14-foot cargo trailer with consignments which generated hundreds of thousands of dollars for our clients.  If you haven't worked with us before, I'd like to make you a part of the exciting things happening at Sunflower Auction.

As you scroll though this newsletter, you will see that we have put together a nice auction calendar for the rest of the year.  We're currently pursuing real estate in Kansas and Missouri, coins, firearms, militaria, historical artifacts and sports memorabilia in addition to our bread and butter collectibles like Longaberger Baskets, Precious Moments, Hummels, etc.  In our experience, the collectibles markets are usually soft during the summer, but normally rebound after Labor Day.  The items we pick up on our Ohio trip will help fill the remainder of the auction calendar for the fall and winter months when our customers traditionally have more time to spend in front of the computer and to attend our gallery auctions.  Don't forget, our availability is on a first-come first-serve basis, so please give me a call right away to discuss the sale of your collection.

For those of you who haven't been to our gallery before, we are located just off 161st Street and Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park, Kansas.  We are located in a 10,000 square foot building with two large auction signs on the front of the building.  It is very easy to find and very accessible.  We are located approximately 50 minutes from Kansas City International Airport and 25 minutes from downtown Kansas City.  I hope to see you in person at an upcoming event.

1. 2007 Dresden Days Street Fair - July 28, 31, August 3. We will have a booth again this year on the streets of Dresden, Ohio for the annual Dresden Days. Please stop by our booth to register for Longaberger prizes and meet our auction staff.  We will be traveling the states of Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio picking up all types of auction consignments beginning on July 26th. We will have plenty of trailer space for large collections again this year.  We are currently scheduling pickups for collections of 500 or more baskets and other large collections of antiques and collectibles.  Please contact us today to schedule your pickup date and time.  We are attempting to front-load the pickup schedule this year, so we can leave for Kansas City early the week of the 30th.  If you are planning to bring baskets to our booth in Dresden that week, please contact us before you come to make sure we are still around.  You can reach Gregg on his cell phone at (913) 526-8622 during the Bee week in Ohio.

2. New Lower Commission Rates.  Commission rates on large collections and estates are negotiable based on the quantity and quality of the items being offered and the amount of work involved in preparing the items for auction.  For a limited time, we are offering 0% sellers commission on amounts over $100,000.  Please contact us for an initial consultation.  We generally charge a flat or tiered commission on each item, and the seller generally pays the advertising and moving costs.  All commissions and fees are deducted at the end of the process, so you pay nothing upfront and we provide insurance coverage on your items while they are in our possession.

Of course, fees are really only half the story.  We strongly believe that the most important factors that determine the selling price of an item are the knowledge and reputation of the seller.  We earn our commission by achieving the highest selling price possible for you!  Our research indicates that we earn most, if not all, of our commission solely from achieving higher than average selling prices
