Sunflower Seeds - Sunday, June 14th, 2009
Welcome to another edition of Sunflower Seeds. "Inflation" - what does it mean for the auction business? If you ask many economists these days, they will tell you that with the recent massive government borrowing, spending, and printing of money, inflation is right around the corner. I share their view. How can you protect yourself from this phenomenon vis-a-vis the auction? In short, as money becomes worth less and less, good quality assets tend to appreciate. I'm recommending that my clients move away from cash and paper assets and into hard assets like gold, silver, coins, guns, ammunition, and antiques. Real estate can also be a good hedge against inflation. For buyers, the auction is a great way to acquire these assets. For sellers, the auction is a useful tool to convert assets into their prevailing cash value, which they can then exchange for an equivalent amount of different assets. Regardless of the value of money, assets will continue to have value and be traded at the auction.
Speaking of auctions, we have a nice bunch coming up in the next month and a half. I encourage you to check them out using the links below. I'm happy to announce that we will NOT be charging a buyer's premium at the next three auctions. I'll be posting photos and additional listings for the auction on the 27th later this week. This will be one of the more interesting auctions that I have ever done. The diversity of items is quite impressive. The items in this auction come from an online seller who went out of business. He knew how to pick good online merchandise, but unfortunately, he wasn't the most disciplined seller. The other two auctions are fully described and photographed below.
I also want to point out our new auction gallery location in the West Bottoms of Kansas City. Many of you will remember our new building as the site where we held the "Music Exchange" record sales and auction. We liked the space so much that we decided to move in. We're in a great central location now with easy access from anywhere in the Kansas City metro. Directions and a map are provided below.
If there is ever anything I can assist you with from real estate marketing to personal property sales, please give me a call.
